In Unit Three, we will be learning about the postclassical era of human history, especially the rise of the nomadic empires, Islam, and the importance of a semi-globalized trade network on the development of cultures, economies, and political systems.

Review activity: Fall of the Roman Empire
Activity 1: Take a look at this topographical map of the world. Brainstorm: What barriers or aids are provided by the mountains, plains, deserts, and waterways of Afro-Eurasia in the era before automobiles? Fill out your blank map with physical features that provide aid to trade or acted as a barrier to trade. Label the map as appropriate (for example, label Nile River).
Activity 2: Read this article on the Silk Road and fill out the Trade Goods Chart attached. Discuss results.
Homework: Keep up with reading and notes.
